Char-Norie Poteat Rising to the Top Patient experience is an FEATURE STAFF PROFILES important measure of the quality of care for patients and families that UNC Hospitals monitors routinely. This is assessed using surveys from both Press Ganey Associates and HCAHPS and the results are shared with departmental leaders. In response to a challenge to incorporate patient experience rounding more frequently to improve patient experience outcomes, the 5 East staff were inspired to not only meet but to exceed their unit goals for this metric. The 5 East team demonstrated effective teamwork and a focus on improved communication with their patients and the care team by receiving the 2018 Carolina Care Awards for the highest overall Press Ganey scores, highest HCAHPS scores, most improved Press Ganey scores and highest HCAHPS rating for Surgery Services.
