Managing the Risks of COVID-19 Turkeisha Brown, MSN, RN, NE-BC Nurse Manager 6 Bed Tower Medicine Services The onset of COVID-19 (COVID) presented a need for immediate action by hospitals worldwide. In response, UNC Hospitals began preparing for a potentially high number of admissions while preventing virus transmission within the hospital and throughout the community. As the Pulmonary and Infectious Disease unit in the hospital, 6 Bed Tower (6 BT) was the obvious choice for patients admitted with possible or confirmed cases of COVID. A growing pandemic that had no proven treatment or standard of care initially posed a daunting challenge.
