These devices are traditionally utilized in the community setting by EMS agencies and historically have rarely been used in the inpatient setting. We were able to trial the device to see if would work to address this concern. This intervention had the most profound impact on our team. We are able to dramatically decrease the amount of people in the room, reducing risk of exposure and preserving our PPE. The CICU nurses assumed responsibility for this device and participated in education and simulation to become comfortable using it. Additionally, simulation was offered for all adult code team responders and the units initially designated for COVID patients. From this simulation, videos and standard guidelines were created on how many people should be present in rooms during resuscitation efforts and what their roles should be. Cristie Dangerfield items from code carts, and early intubation. Our efforts were validated when the American Heart Association (AHA) published their COVID guidelines, highlighting interventions we had already implemented. The group was consistently reviewing evidence and gathering feedback from staff on how our interventions were going. The most challenging gap to solve was how to decrease potential exposure to our staff and preserve personal protective equipment (PPE). We brainstormed several ideas; one was using The mechanical CPR device originally rolled out as a trial in COVID areas is now in use for all adult code blue calls across the hospital and has been used more than 15 times as of this writing. While this team created an abundance of process changes and educational opportunities to address our concerns related to COVID, this remains our most innovative and sustaining improvement. None of our work would be possible without our interdisciplinary team's expertise and their consistent focus on patient and team safety.
