On August 4th, 2020, the Labor &
Delivery narrowcast TV channel at
UNC Hospitals went live.
This thrilled those involved as it followed months of
hard work. In response to feedback from incoming
staff, the Labor & Delivery Orientation Committee
recognized a need for teaching both staff and
pregnant patients different positions to help with
labor progression and pain management. Some of
the staff felt they were unable to help their patients
non-pharmacologically with labor pains. They also
questioned how to use the labor beds, birthing balls,
birthing bars, and peanut balls in order to further a
patient's labor. Originally, the committee decided
the best course of action was to create a 'menu'
with labor positions that would be present in every
