A YEAR IN REVIEW
Whether in an outpatient setting, at home, or at a
hospital, our nurses provide compassionate care and
are a primary advocate for their patients. As nurses, we
typically spend more time with our patients and their
families than other caregivers. We are a vital link to the
entire healthcare team and we play a key role in positive
patient experiences.
Throughout it all, our UNCH nurses continue to provide
amazing care. They tirelessly share their specialized
skills, time and compassion. However, no one has
endless amounts of time and compassion no matter how
much they might try.
As we focus on our future, there continues to be an
increased demand for nurses, increased retirements,
and continuing nursing faculty shortages. To address
these ongoing issues at UNC Hospitals, we are creating
new opportunities for professional development, and
developing creative recruitment and retention strategies
- including new academic clinical partnerships by
expanding our partnership with the UNC School
of Nursing. In addition, we are restructuring our
nursing leadership to enhance support for our teams.
We are focused on new leader support, engaging
and empowering our teams, creating new career
opportunities with succession planning and professional
development, updating our nursing care processes
and policies using evidence-based practices as well as
translational science, and working to improve our overall
experience with our EMR.
While we have so much to be proud of regarding
the care we provide all patients at UNC Hospitals, to
provide the highest quality, safe, Carolina Care, we must
be present, actively listen, empower our teams, and
advocate for our patients and each other.
In line with our values at UNC Health, we support nurses'
personal well-being, as well as their professional and
educational goals. By empowering nurses, we can
create healthier communities across the Tar Heel State.
